Champions League Review: Arsenal, Madrid, City, Milan all held

It was a night of draws all over Europe.

Arsenal gave away a two-goal lead in Germany to draw 2-2 against Schalke 04. The Gunners had started brightly, with Walcott giving them the lead, after a defensive mix-up. Olivier Giroud doubled the lead, heading home a Podolski cross. But Huntelaar pulled a goal back, just before half time. Schalked completed their comeback, after Farfan’s cross-shot went in, via Vermaelen’s outstretched leg.

Manchester City are all but out, after a 2-2 draw at home to Ajax. The visitors scored two quick goals through De Jong, before Yaya Toure pulled one back, with a great finish. And although Sergio Aguero equalised late on, City could not pick all three points, amidst shouts for a penalty in the dying seconds.

Real Madrid also battled to come from behind and draw 2-2 at the Bernabeu, against Borussia Dortmund. Marco Reus stunned the Bernabeu into silence, with a great strike before Pepe nodded in to make it 1-1. Klopp’s men took the lead before half-time through Mario Goetze and Mourinho was forced to throw on Essien and Callejon, as the second half. But all their pressure only yielded one goal – Ozil curling in a majesic free-kick. PSG hammered Dinamo Zagreb 4-0, Olympiakos defeated Montpellier 3-1 at home, Dynamo Kiev were held to a goaless draw by FC Porto, while AC Milan came from behind to draw 1-1 with Malaga.
