Manchester United boss, Jose Mourinho has explained what caused his sides 2-1 loss to Valencia in the Champions League on Tuesday.
The Portuguese said his team lacked intensity.
United spurned the opportunity to claim top spot in Champions League Group H at the expense of Juventus who surprisingly lost to Young Boys.
The Premier League giants ended as group runners-up and could face a host of European top teams in the next round.
When asked by BT Sport why United failed to capitalise on Juve’s defeat, Mourinho said, “First of all because we scored two goals and instead of winning 2-1 we lost 2-1.
“But jokes apart, I think we were too passive in the first half, quite comfortable with the ball but not with intensity and ambition.
“And then in the second half I was pretty sure, after speaking at half-time, things would be different in the second half.
“But we started the second half with an own goal that gave Valencia a better position to control the game.
“I made the two changes later and the team improved immediately, and we start playing faster, arriving with link play in more dangerous positions.
“We go to 2-1, we probably should get to 2-2 because we had a couple of important chances to equalise.
“But I think fundamentally this, we wasted the first half playing too comfortable and with not enough intensity.”
