Champions League: Mourinho explains controversial gesture mocking Juventus fans

Manchester United manager, Jose Mourinho has admitted he should not have taunted Juventus fans who insulted him throughout United’s historic Champions League comeback over Juve.

Juan Mata’s free-kick and an own goal from defender, Alex Sandro helped United secure three points in Turin as Cristiano Ronaldo’s lone goal was not enough to get a point for the hosts

Mourinho, whose late substitutions helped turn the game in United’s favour, stormed into the pitch after the final whistle, cupping his ear before being confronted by Leonardo Bonucci.

Ashley Young was quick on the scene to diffuse the situation before Mourinho was ushered down the tunnel.

“I was insulted for 90 minutes. I came here to do my job, nothing more,” Mourinho told Sky Sport Italia.

“I didn’t offend anyone at the end, I just made a gesture that I wanted to hear them louder.

“I probably shouldn’t have done it, and with a cool head I wouldn’t have done it, but with my family insulted, including my Inter family, I reacted like this.”
