Champions League: Messi shines as Barcelona dump Chelsea out

Barcelona on Wednesday night hammered Chelsea 3-0 at Camp Nou in the second leg round of 16 UEFA Champions League clash to qualify for the quarter finals.

Barcelona played a 1-1 draw in the first leg at Stamford Bridge. But Messi gave the Catalan club the advantage when he put one through the Blues goalkeeper, Thibaut Courtois’ legs after just two minutes and six seconds into the game.

Meanwhile, Chelsea’s miserable start was compounded just 18 minutes later when forward, Ousmane Dembele got Barcelona’s second goal after Messi nicked the ball off Cesc Fabregas and set-up the French striker to double their advantage.

The first half ended 2-0 in favour of the home team.

In the second half of the game, Barcelona number 10, Messi scored in the 63 minutes to send the La Liga league leaders into the quarter finals of the competition as the game ended 4-1 aggregate in favour of the home team.

Barcelona now joins Juventus, Real Madrid, Roma, Sevilla, Liverpool, Manchester City and Roma, who have already booked their spots in the last eight of the competition.

Meanwhile, in the other game, Jupp Heynckes’s Bayern Munich moved into the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals after beating Besiktas 3-1 in Istanbul on Wednesday evening to complete an 8-1 aggregate victory against the Turkish side.
