Real Madrid defender, Marcelo, has said they were never going to capitulate like fierce rivals Barcelona, after they progressed into the Champions League semi-final ahead of Juventus.
Madrid kept their quest for a European three-peat alive, with a 4-3 aggregate victory over Juventus in the quarter-finals, despite Wednesday’s 3-1 loss to the Italian champions.
Zinedine Zidane’s men looked certain to progress, following their 3-0 win in Italy last week, only for Juventus to mount a stunning comeback and level it 3-3 on aggregate.
However, referee Michael Oliver pointed to the spot in the 93rd minute and Cristiano Ronaldo smashed in the penalty, to ensure the defending champions are in the last four.
“We should face and we did everything possible to go through.
“What happened to Barcelona wasn’t going to happen to us because we’re Real Madrid,” Marcelo said afterwards.
