Champions League: Klopp reveals message he got from Manchester City player after quarter final draw

Liverpool’s manager, Jurgen Klopp has revealed a message he received from Manchester City star, Ilkay Gundogan after both English teams were paired in the Champions League quarter-final draw on Friday.

Liverpool and City will face each other for a place in the semi-final after already playing twice in the Premier League this season.

Manchester City won 5-0 in the first match at Etihad after Sadio Mane’s red card in the first half, while in the return game at Anfield, Klopp’s side won 4-3.

Klopp worked with Gundogan at Borussia Dortmund and the Liverpool manager admits his former midfielder got in touch shortly after the Champions League draw.

He told reporters, “Yes, he said in German ‘bis bald’ and I wrote back ‘see ya’.”

“The message came immediately to be honest. Bis bald pretty much means, ‘see you soon’ and I used a Scouse phrase ‘see ya’.”

Klopp also insists he does not have a friendship with City manager, Pep Guardiola.

He added, “I don’t really think Pep and myself have a relationship.

“Especially from my point of view I have respect, I think that is normal when you see his teams playing and the work he did in the last few years. If you are a football manager then you think ‘oh not too bad.”
