Champions League: Klopp gives update on Oxlade-Chamberlain’s injury

Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp fears Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is set for a long injury layoff.

Klopp admitted that the Liverpool midfielder suffered a ‘really bad’ injury against Roma in the Champions League semifinal match last night.

The England international was stretchered off after 20 minutes against the Serie A giants after hurting his knee in a tackle.

Oxlade-Chamberlain appeared to catch his studs in the turf and was rolling around in agony.

The former Arsenal man is set for scans later this week when the swelling decreases around his knee.

But Klopp has told BT Sports the injury is likely to be a ‘really bad’ one.

“Oxlade is probably a really bad injury,’ Klopp told BT Sport.

“If you can say that before the scan then it’s not good news.

“So that means for us it’s a massive blow of course. We need to be creative in the next few games [with team selection],” he added.

Liverpool took a 5-0 lead at Anfield after braces from Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino were sandwiched between a goal from Sadio Mane.

Edin Dzeko and Diego Perotti struck later to give Roma hope of going into the second leg.
