Champions League: Juventus suffers major injury blow ahead of Manchester United clash

Juventus midfielder, Emre Can is likely to miss the Champions League clash against Manchester United on Tuesday after the summer signing was diagnosed with a thyroid problem that could require surgery.

The Germany international arrived the Serie A champions on a free transfer from Liverpool, having refused to sign a new contract with the Reds.

Can was left on the bench in Saturday’s 1-1 draw against Genoa as Juventus coach, Max Allegri rotated his men, along with the likes of Giorgio Chiellini, who expected to come back into the team starting XI for the visit to Old Trafford.

However, the Seria A champions confirmed Can’s injury on Sunday on their official website, saying he may miss the Champions League clash with United.

The brief statement reads, “Emre Can will undergo clinical tests and investigations for a thyroid nodule that could also require surgical treatment.”

If the midfielder undergoes surgery, he could also miss Juve’s home match against United at the start of November, as well as league matches against Empoli and Cagliari.

The match against Genoa at the weekend was the first game Can missed since moving to Turin.
