Champions League: Iker Casillas sets new record in Porto’s draw against Schalke

Porto goalkeeper, Iker Casillas on Tuesday night became the first player to participate in 20 UEFA Champions League seasons following his side’s 1-1 draw against Schalke 04.

Casillas, a Real Madrid legend, attained the landmark when he started his side’s Champions League opening Group D clash against the Bundesliga side in Gelsenkirchen.

The hosts opened scoring just past the hour mark through Swiss striker, Breel Embolo.

Porto, however, equalized through Brazilian midfielder, Otavio in 75th minutes from the spot.

Casillas went past Manchester United legend, Ryan Giggs, who played in 19 Champions League campaigns.

Rounding up the top three is another United legend, Paul Scholes, who took part in 17 seasons.

Casillas has won the competition three times: in 1999/00, 2001/02 and most recently in 2013/14, all of which came while he was playing for the Los Blancos.
