Champions League: How Chelsea’s Conte helped Spartak Moscow draw with Liverpool

The manager of Russian giants, Spartak Moscow, Massimo Carrera, has revealed how Chelsea Manager, Antonio Conte, helped his team record a 1-1 draw with Liverpool in Tuesday night’s Champions League match in Otkrytiye Arena.

Massimo Carrera, an Italian, credited the outcome of the match to Conte, a fellow Italian, saying that the Chelsea boss advised him prior to the game.

Spartak Moscow were largely second-best in the Group E, showing little attacking ambition.

Carrera told post-game conference that advice from Conte helped the result.

He said, “During the conversation we talked about Liverpool for just a couple of minutes.

“We more discussed the situation in our teams, personal affairs, vacation, but what he said about the British, I needed.

“We played a great game against a very good team. I don’t have any complaints about my team’s performance.

“I just want to praise everyone. Am I happy with the result? Yes, we got a draw against a very good team.”

Carrera, who was also a Juventus player, was part of Conte’s coaching team in Turin and during his stint at the helm of Italy.

However, when Conte was contracted by Chelsea, Carrera rejected the chance to join him at Stanford just to pursue his own managerial career in Russia.
