Champions League final: Why we lost to Real Madrid – Allegri

Juventus manager, Massimiliano Allegri, has blamed his side’s poor second half performance for their 4-1 defeat to Real Madrid in the final of this year’s Champions League.

Although Mario Mandzukic cancelled out Cristiano Ronaldo’s opener in the first half, the Serie A champions were unable to keep up with Madrid in the second half.

Casemiro, Ronaldo and Marco Asensio added further goals as Zinedine Zidane’s men retained the trophy they won last year.

Allegri, who was in charge of Juventus when they lost 3-1 to Barcelona in the final in 2015, said at his post-match press conference: “In the 1st half we played beautifully; in the 2nd, Real Madrid pressed the accelerator and we weren’t able to respond.”

Juventus has now lost their four Champions League finals (1997, 1998, 2003, 2015) since they last won it in 1996.
