Champions League final: Liverpool goalkeeper, Karius speaks on his mistakes in 3-1 loss to Real Madr

Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius, has opened up on the terrible mistakes he made during their Champions League final against Real Madrid on Saturday.

The German goalkeeper had issued a heartfelt apology to Liverpool fans after his nightmare against Real Madrid.

Karius campaign ended in disastrous fashion in Kiev after Karim Benzema intercepted his attempt to roll the ball out to open the scoring and the former Mainz goalkeeper flapped Gareth Bale’s game-clinching strike into his own net with seven minutes remaining.

He spoke with talkSPORT afterwards, “I don’t feel anything today. I lost my team the game and I feel sorry for everyone.

“I’m sorry for everyone – from the team, from the whole club – that the mistakes cost dearly. If I could go back in time, I would. I feel sorry for my team. I know I let them down today.

“It’s very hard right now but that’s the life of a goalkeeper. You have to get your head up again. These goals cost us the title, basically.”

Asked what the mood was like in the Liverpool dressing room after the defeat, he added, “There’s not much I had to say. Of course everyone tried to cheer me up – but there was just silence everywhere because everyone was really disappointed.

Speaking about Bale’s second goal which went through his hands, Karius said, “It moved around a lot. I tried to catch it, maybe I should have done it safer and just put it out of play instead of trying to catch it. I judged it wrong and it went in.”
