Brazil legend, Rivaldo, has attacked Barcelona midfielder, Philippe Coutinho for the way he celebrated his goal during his side’s Champions League quarter-final second leg 3-0 win over Manchester United on Tuesday.
A brace from Lionel Messi and a strike from Philippe Coutinho ensured that the La Liga champions dumped Man United out of the Champions League.
Coutinho celebrated his goal against Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side by putting his fingers in his ears and closing his eyes.
Coutinho’s celebration appeared to be in response to the Barcelona fans, who are yet to embrace the Brazilian international since his arrival from Liverpool last season for £142million.
But Rivaldo, a former Barcelona player, wasn’t happy with the way Coutinho celebrated his goal and suggested it may further anger Barcelona fans.
Reacting to Coutinho’s goal celebration, Rivaldo told Marca: “It was not a good gesture. He scored a great goal, but it’s never good to do something like that to the fans.
“The supporters criticise him because they know he has to give more.
“I don’t know what happened to him during the week, what he read in the newspapers or saw on television, but you have to keep working, think about the next game and score goals.
“If he scores everything will change and he will be a player for the club.”
