Challenges facing Nollywood will be over soon – Peace Anyiam-Osigwe

Peace Anyiam-Osigwe, the Founder of the African Movie Academy Awards (AMAA), has expressed optimism that the challenges currently facing the movie industry would soon be over.

Anyiam-Osigwe told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that this was because the Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, had an understanding of the challenges facing the industry.

She said, “The minister seems to be well grounded about what he wants to do for the industry.

“ I hope and believe that he will actually achieve what is right for this industry.

“After listening to him, I don’t think there is much we are going to say to him after what he said to us on Sunday.

“It is for us to hope that he acts upon the things he had said.’’

NAN reports that the minister had a parley with some stakeholders in the Nollywood industry on Sunday on how to move the sector forward.

Osigwe said the most challenging element which needed immediate action was the problem of distribution and piracy.

“Piracy and distribution are the major challenges that will make the big difference in the industry because they work hand-in -hand.

“We feel these are our topmost challenges that must be tackled head-long,’’ she said.

She called on all stakeholders to support the minister in achieving the aims and objectives he had set for the industry.
