Certificate forgery: Group berates Ajimobi over delay in reinstatement of civil servants

Oyo State Chapter of Campaign for Democratic and Workers’ Rights (CDWR) has condemned Governor Abiola Ajimobi of the state over the continuous delay in the reinstatement of some workers who have been cleared of alleged certificate forgery.

CDWR Coordinator, Abiodun Bamigboye in a statement issued on Monday said it was unfortunate that the state government is yet to offset salaries and pension arrears the administration is owing civil servants and retirees in the state despite collection of Paris Club share.

Bamigboye said the state does not have any excuse than to pay the workers immediately. He said “Ajimobi-led government must pay all outstanding salaries and pensions.

“All civil servants that were dismissed and later cleared of allegation of forgery and falsification levelled against them by Ajimobi-led government must be reinstated with the immediate payment of their salaries and other benefits.

“The Oyo State Chapter of Campaign for Democratic and Workers’ Rights (CDWR) use the occasion of this year celebration of workers day internationally known as MAYDAY to condemn the continuous failure of the Senator Ajimobi-led government to offset salaries and pension arrears the administration is owing civil servants and retirees in the state.

“This is especially when it is a common knowledge that Ajimobi/APC-led government in the state has reportedly received from the Federal Government at different occasions over N20billion as a bailout fund for the same purpose.

“It is in light of this, that CDWR hereby demand immediate payment of all salary and pension arrears ranging from 5 to 10 months the Oyo government currently owes its workers.

“We also demand the immediate reinstatement of all civil servants who were wrongly dismissed by Senator Ajimobi-led government few months ago on allegation of forgery and falsification of certificate but later cleared and exonerated of same unverified allegation. This must also include the payment of all their entitlements.

“Workers and poor citizens in the state must stop to believe the government propaganda that the Ajimobi-led government lacks the capacity to pay salaries and pension of workers and retirees respectively on monthly basis and still carryout developmental projects that will make life meaningful for other citizen who don’t belong to the category of salary earners.

“This is just a mere propaganda to deliberately create undue hostility between salary earners and poor non-salary earners in the state. We of the CDWR strongly believe that it is possible for the Oyo State government despite the decline in the oil revenue to pay salary and pension as of when due and still carry out many other developmental projects across the state. However, this will require a radical departure from the existing old order in the state whereby politicians from various capitalist parties like APC, PDP, ACCORD, SDP, APGA and misnamed LP and their acolytes in business often award to themselves public fund under different guise like outrageous salary and allowances, security votes; inflated contract system and other dubious means.

“We therefore call for the united struggle of workers and other poor citizens in the state to demand that: Political office holders must be placed on the same salary scale as that of civil servants; all forms of dubious contract system through which capitalist politicians in business enrich themselves must be abolished in favour of public work system run by elected representatives of the workers and the people in the community while privatisation and running of the mainstay of the society economy for profit by a few rich people must also be abolished in favour of state ownership of the mainstay of the economy under a democratic control of workers and representatives of the people in the community.”
