CCT Trial: Tribunal judge orders Saraki’s case to commence by 12pm

The Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal, CCT, Danladi Umar Wednesday stood down the trial of the Senate President, Bukola Saraki till 12pm.

This followed an application by a member of the prosecution team, A. Atolade, who urged the tribunal to stand down the trial due to the absence of the lead prosecution counsel, Rotimi Jacobs, SAN, who he said was on his way.

Umar initially declined, saying, “Under this circumstance, we are proceedings with the case, 10′ o’clock is the time, only if we have not finished from the inside.”

But Saraki’s lead counsel, Kanu Agabi, SAN, however appealed to the tribunal Chairman to stand down the matter for one hour, hoping that Jacobs will be around then.

Agabi said, “My lord I plead for one hour stand down, we as lawyers face this problem all the time. By then Rotimi should be a available.”

Following Agabi’s appeal that the prayer of the prosecution be considered, Umar recanted on his earlier declaration and stood down the trial for one hour.
