The Code of Conduct Tribunal, CCT, on Wednesday, adjourned the trial of the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, till next week.
Saraki is currently standing trial at the tribunal on a 16-count charge bordering on false and anticipatory assets declaration when he was the Governor of Kwara State.
At the resumed trial today, his counsel, KANU Agabi, SAN, informed the tribunal that it has a pending motion before it.
Agabi said, “We have a motion before your lordship, there has been no opposition to the process and it has been served.”
But the defence counsel, Pius Akuta who was holding brief for the lead counsel, Rotimi Jacobs, SAN, opposed the motion, saying the business of the day is the cross examination of the witness.
Akuta said, “We were served with this motion two days ago at about 6pm and we have responded and filed before the tribunal. The lead counsel, Rotimi Jacobs who is not available has directed that the business of today is the further cross examination of the witness.”
“We are not here today to hear the motion, its not ripe for hearing.”
But Agabi argued that the defence team got the response this morning, as such would need time to study and respond.
“Their response is voluminous and we will need time to study and respond,” Agabi said.
After listening to the brief argument from both counsels, Chairman of the tribunal Danladi Umar adjourned the matter till Tuesday next week.
Umar held that he will hear the motion and still continue with the proceedings on the same day.
