CCT trial: Saraki accuses tribunal judge of bias, insists he hands off his case

The Senate President, Bukola Saraki on Tuesday accused the Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal, Danladi Umar of been bias in the handling of his ongoing trial.

Saraki said this through a submission made by one of his counsels, Paul Irokoro, SAN, at the Code of Conduct Tribunal, CCT.

Irokoro said this while explaining the fresh motion filed by the defence team seeking that Umar disqualifies himself from the ongoing trial over a statement he made, saying ” I’m not happy by the delay tactics been implored by the defendant.”

But in his submission, Irokoro alleged that the tribunal Chairman had said that “Saraki’s delay tactics in his trial will not reduce the consequences that he would meet from the tribunal at the end of the trial.”

Wondering the special interest Umar had in the case, Irokoro urged the Chairman to disqualify himself from the matter.

He said, “From the comment that Saraki’s delay tactics in his trial will not reduce the consequences that he would meet from the tribunal at the end of the trial, it shows that my lord has made up his mind and this indicate bias.

“Why the special interest in this matter? Once a party shows fear, the constitution states that the judge must hands off the case.

“If my lord steps down from this case, another judge will proceed over the matter.”

Matter still ongoing….
