Cattle rustler, four others arrested in Kebbi


A notorious cattle rustler, identified as Adamu Belo, nick-named Adede, has been arrested and paraded by the Kebbi State Police Command.

Adede who was apprehended by a patrol team of the command, apart from being a notorious criminal who specialises in cattle rustling, also reportedly engaged in armed robbery and kidnappings in and around the Bagudo Local Government Area of the state.

Parading Adede at the Command’s headquarters in Birnin Kebbi alongside four other suspected criminals that have reportedly been terrorising the state on armed robbery, kidnapping, theft and cattle rustling, the state Commissioner of Police, CP, Yakubu Jibrin, said significant success had been recorded within the short time he arrived at the Command.

According to the CP, “Adede, apart from being a notorious criminal who specialises in cattle rustling, also engaged in armed robbery and kidnappings in and around the Bagudo local government area of the state and New-Bussa LGA of Niger State.

“He was once convicted for cow theft in New-Bussa Magistrate Court in Niger State, but he did not repent but rather forged ahead in his notorious activities.

“It is our collective resolution as officers and men of the Kebbi State Command to make the state a crime-free state this end of the year and beyond.

“During their arrest, 16 locally made pistol, three pieces of charms, five locally made pellets, one cutlass, and four pieces of iron were recovered from them.

“Investigation by the police revealed that the leader of the gang, Ali Labaran, was a member of a syndicate that manufactured and sold locally made guns to armed robbers operating in Beba area of the state.

“The suspects would be taken to court and would face charges of criminal conspiracy and unlawful possession of firearms, among others,” the police boss affirmed.
