Chelsea manager, Maurizio Sarri, has insisted he remains in the dark over Eden Hazard’s future, but made it clear he needs the player back to his best, if the Blues are to qualify for next season’s Champions League.

Speculation over the 28-year-old’s future intensified over the international break, with Hazard reportedly set on a summer move to the Spanish giants.

Hazard’s current contract expires next year and he has shown no desire to sign an extension, despite having reportedly been offered £300,000-a-week.

Speaking about Hazard’s situation ahead of Chelsea’s trip to struggling Cardiff this weekend, Sarri said: “I don’t know. You have two possibilities, ask Hazard or the club. I am not in charge of the transfer market.

“We need Hazard to be at the top for the end of the season. Now we can’t solve the problem, the market is closed. I want to respect is decision. I don’t know if he has decided or not.”

Chelsea’s hopes of Champions League qualification took a significant dent before the two-week break, after Sarri’s side dropped five points from matches against Wolves and Everton.

“I think in the last period it will be very hard for all teams.

“We can reach the top four if we are not able to win 8 matches in a row. No [points target]. We need to go match by match,” Sarri added.
