September 29, World Heart Day was World largest global awareness campaign on raising awareness on cardiovascular diseases. As part the on-going contribution on interventions to control and reduce the risks of heart diseases in the country, Cardiac Health Initiative in partnership with Pfizer is supporting enlightenment activities on cardiovascular diseases and the modifiable risk factors associated with them.

According to Dr. Kodjo Soroh, Medical Director Pfizer, “Our mission is to use innovative science to improve healthcare at every stage of life. Many risk factors associated with heart diseases can be prevented by addressing habits like the use of tobacco, unhealthy diet, lack of physical exercise and other modifiable CVD risk factors. We all need to take action for healthy hearts in our homes and communities”.

The program provides an informative platform for raising awareness on cardiovascular diseases and the importance of living healthy life styles to keep a healthy heart. This demonstrates Pfizer’s commitment to improve partnerships and strengthen advocacy platforms.

Nnenna obibuaku, Chief Operating Officer, Cardiac Health Initiative noted that, ”World Heart Day provides an opportunity to create an awareness of heart disease, the leading cause of death worldwide. In children congenital heart disease is the most common type of birth defect worldwide, with an incidence of 3.5 per 1000 in Nigeria1. Cardiac Health Initiative is focused on providing treatment for less privileged children and adults with heart disease. We organize public health campaigns, through which we provide free health screening within communities to check for heart disease”.

“We will continue to advocate for heart healthy environments and support the fight against non-communicable diseases through public health campaigns and public-private partnerships” – Ngozi Ushedo, Media & Public Relations Manager Pfizer.
