Carabao Cup: What Emery told Martinelli, Chambers before 5-0 win over Nottingham Forest

Arsenal manager, Unai Emery, has revealed the advice he gave Gabriel Martinelli and Calum Chambers, before their emphatic 5-0 win over Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup.

The Gunners put five goals past Championship outfit Forest on Tuesday evening, to book their place in the fourth round of the competition.

Martinelli scored a brace, while Reiss Nelson, Joe Willock and the returning Rob Holding also got on the scoresheet.

Emery told reporters about Martinelli afterwards: “He played very well in pre-season.

“We were waiting and watching him, how he could improve with us. He was working in each training session with a big spirit and performance.

“I spoke with him before and told him to have some patience, to wait for his opportunities. Tonight he did that. He deserved his goals.

“He is very humble, he fights, he’s hungry to have that opportunity to help us.”

Chambers, who spent last season on loan at Fulham, also impressed for Arsenal in his fourth appearance of the season.

Emery added: “He helps us in training and in the dressing room. If you want him to play right-back, centre-back, left-back… he can do it.

“Tonight I told him when he played at left back be calm here, help and support Bukayo [Saka], give the ball to [Dani] Ceballos. He was overlapping lots of time.”
