Carabao Cup: Derby County boss, Frank Lampard speaks on playing Chelsea

Derby County manager, Frank Lampard has talked about a potential ‘romantic’ clash with former club, Chelsea in the third round of the English League Cup.

The former Chelsea captain took over as Derby coach at the end of May and has impressed in his first job in management, winning five of his opening seven games in charge in all competitions.

The Rams’ 4-0 win over Hull City in the second round of the League Carabao Cup at the KCOM Stadium on Tuesday night was their most emphatic win under Lampard’s stewardship.

It was Martyn Waghorn and Florian Jozefzoon that opened scoring for Lampard’s side before the break at the KCOM Stadium. Brandon Fleming’s own-goal and a composed finish from Chelsea loanee Mason Mount completed the rout.

Asked about a possible clash with Chelsea in the next round, Lampard told Sky Sports, “The big boys are coming in which will be a great test for us. It’s a competition we want to do well in.

“It’s an obvious question for me [playing Chelsea], it would be nice. For the romantic link Chelsea would be a good one.”

Derby face Hull again in the Championship this weekend and Lampard urged his players to avoid complacency.

“We will have to see, we will reflect on this one. It will be a completely different game,’’ the former Chelsea midfielder said.
