An accident involving two vehicles along the Apapa-Oshodi Expressway in Lagos on Tuesday has left about four people seriously injured.
It was gathered that among those injured is an expatriate, whose spinal cord was broken.
One of the vehicles, a Pathfinder, was said to have rammed into a pole, dividing it into two as a result of brake failure.
The other vehicle involved in the crash, a Honda, was said to have crashed into the pathfinder after somersaulting several times.
An eyewitness who happened to be a LASTMA official though chose not to be named said, “The accident happened around 12 noon at Y junction. It involved two vehicles ─ a Pathfinder and a Honda.
“One of the vehicles lost its brake and crashed into a pole. The concrete pole broke into pieces. Then the second vehicle, while trying to manoeuvre, tumbled and somersaulted several times.
“Four people were seriously injured. A man passing by was hit and was soaked in blood, while an expatriate, who was in one of the jeeps, broke his spinal cord. He had to be supported into another vehicle.”
Sympathizers at the scene of the accident were said to have gone berserk on officials of LASTMA and other emergency workers, due to the unavailability of the Lagos State Ambulance Service to take the victims to hospital.
The arrival of Police officers attached to the Makinde division at the scene of the incident helped in bringing things under control.
The Image maker of LASTMA, Mrs Bola Ajao, who confirmed the incident appealed to motorists to reduce their speed in order to avoid accidents.
“The crash was avoidable. Lagosians need to learn patience.
“We don’t know the fate of those rushed to the hospital because they were seriously injured,” Ajao said.
