CAN slams SGF, Lawal for accusing Christians of fueling death rumours on Buhari

The Christian Association of Nigeria (Youth Wing), has strongly faulted a recent comment credited to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, where he claimed that Christians were behind the death rumours on President Muhammadu Buhari.

The group said the SGF had told lies against the body of Christ.

The organisation wondered what the SGF wanted to achieve by accusing Christians of being responsible for the rumours concerning the ailing health of the President.

YOWICAN in a statement issued by its President, Daniel Kadzai, slammed Lawal for trying to ridicule the Christian community.

YOWICAN said, “We wish to state categorically that the SGF has no ecclesiastical authority to speak for his church (ECWA) or the Christian community. Let him not be deceived by his position in government as if he is equal to a spiritual leader speaking for the Christians.

“How will he (SGF) come out and even indict every Christian in Nigeria that we are the people fueling the controversy about the President’s health?

“If these people now declare war against Christians and kill everybody because of the allegation, is that not a serious disaster for us?

“Babachir David Lawal has said what the church did not permit him to say and we have not given him mandate to speak on behalf of the church.”
