CAN restates call for ending herdsmen attack in Nigeria

The Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Wednesday, restated its earlier call on the federal government to take more proactive steps in curbing the wanton killing of Christians in some parts of the country.

The association wondered why it was taking President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration much time to end the senseless destruction of lives and property in Nigeria.

The south east zonal chairman of CAN, Pastor Gordy Okafor, made this known to newsmen in Umuahia, the Abia state capital on Wednesday.

The cleric said that incessant killings in the country had hindered several foreign investment, saying that no foreign investment can thrive in Nigeria under the present state of insecurity.

According to Pastor Okafor, “Our position on the killings by herdsmen and Boko Haram sect have always been clear. We are tired of hiding to worship our God. We are tired of our church buildings being burnt. We are tired of our people being massacred simply because they are Christians.

“The number one responsibility of a responsible government is to provide adequate security. If the citizens of this country cannot be sure of being secured, how then can you ask the foreigners to invest in Nigeria?

“I think the federal government should be more proactive. They should do better in security. We are really tired of seeing our Christian brethren massacred.

“And Nigeria is not the only nation where we have Muslims. You find Muslims in almost every nation of the earth. So, why is our own different?

“Why are we having this crisis in this country?vEveryday, you must hear herdsmen have killed one person or the other. Even the more they try to hide the truth, people still know they are dying on daily basis”.
