The Narasawa State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, has accused Fulani herdsmen of the gruesome killing of the Overseer of Evangelical Church Winning All, ECWA, Reverend Joseph Kura, in Obi.
In a press briefing at CAN secretariat, the chairman, Bishop Dr Joseph Masin claimed that men identified as Fulani herders murdered the late Rev. Kura while he was in the bush gathering timber to re-roof his church building.
CAN said the brutal and barbaric manner Kura was murdered was worrisome, stressing that his assailants cut off his two hands and watched him bleed to death.
CAN lamented the ways and manner in which Christians are attacked and killed these days on their farms, noting that the attacks and killings have taken another dimension with the elimination of the clergyman.
“The state has undergone huge spate of attacks and killings especially in Christian dominated communities.
“Our members cannot go back to their farms or homes, adding that two of their female followers were abducted and forced to convert to Islam and married without the consent of their parents.
CAN also cried out over its members being forced to convert to Islam, listing Happiness Benjamin and Adoyi Benjamin as those being converted to the religion against their will and forced into marriage without parental consent.
It added, “If we said our members should defend themselves against any aggression we are not telling them to carry along deadly weapons, though self-defence is allowed.”
