Calls for restructuring Nigeria may not be helpful – Osinbajo

The Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, at the weekend faulted the various calls for the restructuring of the country, pointing out that it will not make any difference.

Osinbajo, who spoke while fielding questions from the audience after delivering the second foundation lecture of the Elizade University, Ilara-Mokin, Ondo State, titled, “The Future is Here Earlier Than We Thought,” asserted that Nigeria needs diversification of the economy and not restructuring because the Federal Government controls the bulk of the resources.

A statement on Sunday by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mr. Laolu Akande, reports that Osinbajo asserted that calls for restructuring because the federal government controls a bigger portion of the resources may not be helpful.

“Even if states are given half of the resources of the federal government, the situation will not change; the only change is to diversify the economy,” he said.

The Vice President urged Nigerians to embrace technology as a vital key to development, noting that “We are not earning enough from oil and taxes anymore, the nation is blessed, every state can feed itself and also export if we engage in agriculture.”
