Call for self-defense ‘an insult to the military’ – Prophet Abiara fires TY Danjuma

Renowned cleric and retired General Evangelist of the Christ Apostolic Church (worldwide), Prophet Samuel Abiara has described as insulting to the military, the recent calls by some citizens for Nigerians to defend themselves.

He stated this at the thanksgiving service for his retirement as CAC general evangelist, and his recent marriage to Lady Evangelist Grace, held at CAC, Agbala Itura headquarters, Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, on Sunday.

The cleric was apparently reacting to a recent call by former Minister for Defence, General Theophilus Danjuma, who asked Nigerians to defend themselves before they all die.

According to Danjume, Nigerians should defend themselves against ethnic cleansing.

However, Abiara, who now heads the Christ Apostolic Church, Agbala Itura while speaking with newsmen shortly after the event, expressed sadness at the state of insecurity, but commended the military and other security operatives for their efforts.

He noted, however, that “It’s an insult to the military to ask people to defend themselves, especially as many ordinary Nigerians don’t even own guns or have police escorts or security operatives guarding them specially. Although, in all honesty, security operatives are trying, the government must also put in more efforts to ensure security.”

Speaking on the decision to remarry, he said: “I really thank God. It is the will of God and I can say God gave her to me. She has the spirit of God; she’s an educationist.”
