CAF to announce hosts for AFCON 2017 in April

The Confederation of African Football (CAF), will announce the hosts for the next edition of the Africa Cup of Nations on April 8 in Cairo.

Algeria, Egypt, Gabon, Ghana, Kenya, Sudan and Zimbabwe have all indicated their interest in hosting the rest of the continent.

The country that eventually wins the right to host, will participate in the qualifying round which begins in June. However, their matches will be considered as friendlies. The draw for the 2017 AFCON, will also be conducted on April 8.

52 teams are expected to enter for the qualifiers and they will be divided into 13 groups, with the winners progressing to the next round of qualifying, alongside the two best runners-up.

CAF have also confirmed that the 2018 World Cup qualifiers will start in October. All the teams will be whittled down to 20 and they will then be divided into five groups. The winner of each group will qualify for the World Cup in Russia.
