CAF presidency: Dalung denies NFF is against Issa Hayatou

Minister of Sports, Solomon Dalung, has insisted that any position the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) president Amaju Pinnick, has taken on the Confederation of African Football (CAF) presidential election, remains his and not that of the country.

Pinnick has publicly declared his support for Ahmad Ahmad  the president of the Madagascan FA, to defeat incumbent Issa Hayatou in the March 16 elections.

However, Dalung, in a statement signed by his director of press, Tolu Makinde, said that whoever Pinnick supports or not are “his personal opinions and do not represent the position of the government and people of Nigeria.”

“All those aspiring to the various offices of CAF are doing so as individuals and advised not to use their positions or name of Nigeria to unduly promote their political ambitions at the expense of national interest.

“Nigeria will support what is good for football, in line with laid-down rules and regulations, as well as time-tested conventions.”
