CAF election into FIFA to hold September

The election to decide two additional CAF members into the FIFA Council, will take place at an Extraordinary Congress on September 29, 2016.

FIFA president, Gianni Infantino, had announced that two more African members will be admitted into the Council, for the transitional period from September 30, 2016 to March 16, 2017.

Amos Adamu was the last Nigerian to be elected into the FIFA executive committee and served from 2006 to 2010.

CAF Secretary General Hicham El Amrani, in a statement distributed to all 54 member associations, revealed that the deadline for submission of applications to contest for the two seats was June 30.

“The circular also cited 30 June 2016, three months prior to the elections for the submission of candidatures for elections onto the FIFA Council in accordance with the provisions of article 18.5 of the CAF Statutes,” Amrani said.

“The postal stamp of Cairo Post office will be taken as evidence for the candidatures sent. The candidacies submitted by hand, by telegram, by fax shall not be accepted” the circular mentioned.

“Candidates for the FIFA Council will be subject to an integrity test in accordance with the current FIFA Statutes and Governance regulations. Under the circumstances, an adjustment has been made on the timeline that candidates must the submitted to FIFA for the integrity test.”
