AS Vita have sacked Akwa United from the 2016 CAF Confederation Cup.
The Congolese club defeated the Promise Keepers 6-5 on penalties, after the tie ended 1-1 on aggregate.
Maurice Cooreman’s men needed a draw to qualify, after winning 1-0 in Congo, but they lost a first-half penalty before the visitors scored in the 54th minute.
However, another Nigerian team, Nasarawa United advanced to the first round of the CAF Confederation Cup, after they drew 0-0 with Generation Foot of Senegal.
They will face CS Constantine of Algeria in the next stage.
