Garba Umar
The Acting Governor of Taraba state, Alhaji Garba Umar, has raised the alarm over the ongoing political quagmire in the state.
He said some powerful persons were behind the crisis that had put the state in an unfortunate bad light.
Since the return of ailing Governor, Danbaba Suntai from his medical treatment in the United States on Sunday, uncertainty has beclouded the state, with several Nigerians condemning the situation.
But Umar who spoke through his Press Secretary,Kefas Sule this evening, disclosed that efforts were on to resolve the leadership crisis that resulted from the return of Suntai.
He dismissed the recent announcement of the dissolution of the executive council, saying the appointment of a new Government Secretary and Chief of Staff was ineffective.
The Acting Governor said that there was a plot by a “cabal” to hijack the government for selfish purposes.
Accoding to him, he believed that the directive was not from Governor Suntai, adding that all financial institutions that transact with the state government accounts should honour all financial transactions with the due verification of signatures of the governor and the acting governor respectively.
He thanked the people of the state for their understanding, “high sense of patriotism and brotherly manner” with which they are handling the development in the past few days.
“Moments like this call for greater restraint and vigilance, hence Bankers of the Taraba state government are reminded to ensure that all financial instructions relating to the state government account should be honoured only if they are done within the provision of law” Umar said.
