BVN: Plateau bank customers in last-minute rush

Barely one day to the closing of the Bank Verification Number, BVN, hundreds of customers on Friday in Plateau, have engaged in last minute rush for the exercise.

It will be recalled that the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, had given October 31 as the deadline for the BVN to all customers operating bank accounts in commercial banks to get registered.

DAILY POST reports that customers on the queues defied the sun and dusty wind in their determination to get their accounts verified, as they storm banks premises in Mangu and Pankshin local government areas of the state.

A bank official, who simply identified himself as Mr. Mark, condemned the careless attitude of customers for the exercise.

A farmer, one Mr. Dakur Dakop, said, “I have not been free to come for the BVN, considering the work load before me at my farms.

“In fact, I earlier thought it is something I can send my son to do for me or something I can do at will until I learnt tomorrow is the closing date,” Dakop added.

Subsequently, a businessman who identified himself as Mr. Tony Chigozie, said he had done for one of his accounts but is yet to register for the other account with a different bank. He said he must have it done today no matter what.

At Unity Bank plc, Pankshin, where scanty persons were seen verifying their accounts, it was gathered that the response of the customers within the extended period was ‘very encouraging.’

Meanwhile, the situation was the same in Panyam District, Mangu, where the only Union Bank branch in the area was taken over by desperate customers who were there for the exercise.
