A businessman, simply identified as Mr. Aloysius Adiwge has been shot dead by an armed robbery gang that invaded his residence at Atabong by Eyo–Ita in Calabar South LGA of Cross River State.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday when a robbery gang invaded the compound at Atabong Street.
DAILY POST gathered that when the gang entered the compound, they started raiding the building room by room until they got to Mr. Adigwe’s room and he attacked one of the members of the group.
A source who pleaded anonymity said that he acted on impulse because he taught that the armed robbers were not armed with guns but unknown to him that the second group outside were fully armed.
“When he cut one of the armed robbers with a matchet, he shouted and other gang members came in and immediately opened fire on his chest and he died on the spot,” he said.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Irene Ugbo confirmed the incident.
“We are aware of the matter and investigation is ongoing to make sure we get the culprits because there is no hiding place for them.
“Our men responded but the people in the compound out of fear did not open the door because our men could have taken the victim to the hospital,” she said.
