Businessman robs commercial sex worker


The police on Tuesday arraigned a 35-year-old businessman, Arinze Nnachi before an Ebute Meta Magistrate Court sitting in Lagos for allegedly robbing a commercial sex worker, identified as Patience Sunday.

The incident was said to have occurred on May 19 at a hotel on Borno Way, Ebute Meta, Lagos State after the duo met and the suspect agreed to pay her N5, 500 for the night.

According to the police, the suspect paid the commercial sex worker the sum N2,000 instead of what was initially agreed upon. This led to a burst up that left the victim beaten.

The commercial sex worker also claimed Nnachi stole her mobile phone worth N45, 000.

Nnachi was arraigned on a two counts charge of assault and stealing.

The charges read in part, “That you, Arize Nnachi, on May 19, 2015, at about 4am on Borno Way, Ebute Meta, Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did unlawfully assault one Patience Sunday by beating her up and hitting her with blows….”

The police prosecutor, Inspector Asu Feddy, told the court that the offences contravened Sections 172 and 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2011.

When the charges were read, the accused pleaded not guilty.
