Bus kills FRSC official at crash scene

Few hours to the end of year 2012, a Federal Road Safety Corps officer, Olasoji Olaleye, was knocked off the road and killed on Sunday by a luxury bus while controlling traffic in a rescue operation, following an earlier accident that occurred around Ososa river, along the Sagamu-Ijebu Ode-Benin expressway in Odogbolu Local Government Area of Ogun State.

DailyPost gathered that Olaleye was among the officers assigned to the scene of a multiple vehicle crash that occurred around 7am on Sunday at Ososa junction before he was hit and thrown into the river by the impact of the speeding bus heading towards Lagos.

The grey luxury bus, marked XC 373 NEN and owned by Young Shall Grow Motors was said to had defied orders to stop before killing the FRSC official.

According to an eyewitness, who pleaded anonymity, “He (Olaleye) was directing vehicles coming from Ijebu Ode to pass through the opposite lane alongside other security agents before the luxury bus driver, who was at a high speed, hit him and he fell into the river.”

The Ogun State Sector Commander of the FRSC, Mr. Ayobami Omiyale, described the incident as “unfortunate, shocking and sad.”

“How can a man called to come and save lives lose his own life in the discharge of official duties? This is sad and terrible,” Omiyale said.

He however decribed Olaleye’s death as “the highest level of sacrifice that anyone could make for the betterment of his fatherland.”

Confirming the incident, the Divisional Police Officer of Obalende, Ijebu Ode, Mr. ThankGod Obijiaku said the reckless luxury bus driver defied orders to stop before he killed the FRSC official.

He added that the driver, who was saved from being lynched by a mob, had been detained by the police.
