No fewer than eleven children have been crushed to death after a bus driver lost control and rammed into a Muslim procession marking the birthday of Prophet Mohammed in Gombe yesterday.
According to police spokesman in the state, Ahmed Usman, the accident, which occured on Tuesday in Malam Sidi village in Gombe state was due to a brake failure.
“A total of 11 children died in the incident while 17 others were seriously injured.”
He added that the victims were aged between 11 and 15.
The police boss said the development prompted an angry mob to descend on the bus driver and beat him to death.
He said the police had launched an investigation into the accident.
