Bus conductor killed in Lagos by police corporal

In less than a week that Dailypost reported the indiscriminate shooting by some police officers while enforcing the Lagos traffic laws where an Okada man was beaten and stripped naked at Unilag Junction, similar incidents have happened since then. It was reported that another Okada man was on Monday killed at Ilupeju Byepass while the state was taken over by sporadic shootings on Wednesday as well.

DailyPost gathered that a bus conductor was also allegedly shot dead on Wednesday at Tipper Garage in Ketu,Lagos for refusing to offer a policeman bribe.

The policeman identified as Corporal Oluwatiyesi Gboyega attached to Mopol 50, FCT Abuja, was said to have opened fire on him. The bullet hit him on the head, his brains spattered everywhere and he died immediately on the spot.

A policeman attached to the Ketu Police Station said, “When we saw that the situation was becoming tensed, we arrested the policeman and took him to our station. We’ll transfer him tomorrow (today). Policeman or no policeman, he has killed somebody and must be treated as a murderer.”

Another eye witness who identified himself as Gbangba, said, “When I got to Ketu, it was confusion everywhere. Policemen were everywhere and they were shooting. I had to run and hid somewhere. I hid there until the shooting stopped. Policemen and bus drivers were fighting. It was serious a fight. It all started after a policeman shot and killed a bus conductor who refused to give him bribe.”

All commercial activities were halted, as passers-by and traders scampered for safety from flying bullets, as policemen started shooting sporadically into the air when enraged bus drivers and other conductors, came together and almost began a war with the policemen in the area.
