National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun yesterday disclosed that the party’s presidential candidate in the last general elections, Muhammadu Buhari will not have been elected if politics were to be all about money.
The former governor of Edo state made this assertion while receiving a female governorship aspirant in Edo, Mrs Tina Agbarha, who paid him a visit at the APC national secretariat in Abuja.
While advising the aspirant to place less emphasis on role of money in politics, the APC chairman stressed that; “If it were all about money President Muhammadu Buhari would not win.”
He went on to state that Buhari was able to win the election he contested against the then incumbent president, Goodluck Jonathan because “the people trusted him.”
Oyegun then encouraged the governorship aspirant to, as a woman, take her campaigns “very, very seriously”, pledging that the party would give all aspirants a level-playing field by conducting free and fair primaries.
He however called on all aspirants to be ready to collapse their structures behind the flag bearer to stand united in the election.
Speaking earlier, Agbarha thanked the chairman for the free nomination and expression of interest forms for women and urged him to create more opportunities for women in the party.
