Buhari vs Atiku: Yorubas voted PDP more than Igbo – Fani-Kayode

Former Aviation Minister, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode has blamed the people of the South-East for contributing to the loss of candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, in the February 23 presidential election.

According to him, the Yoruba nation gave more votes to the PDP than the Igbo who had ‘greater stake’ in the party’s ticket.

Taking to his verified Twitter handle on Sunday, Fani-Kayode queried the South-East’s 1.67 million votes for Atiku despite the PDP vice presidential candidate, Peter Obi, coming from the region.

He noted that the South-West, which has less stake in the Atiku/Obi ticket as neither presidential nor his deputy hailed from the region, contributed 1.75 million votes to the ticket.

DAILY POST reports the Southeast region has five states with 10,057,130 registered voters in the 2019 general election, while the Southwest region has six states with 16,292,212.

But Fani-Kayode explained that in spite of that inequality, the South-East should have given the Atiku/Obi ticket more votes.

“In the 2019 presidential election South East gave Atiku Abubakar and Peter OBI 1.67 million votes whilst the South West gave the same Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi’s ticket a whooping 1. 75million votes, notwithstanding that the geo- political region had no direct stake in that ticket,” he said.
