Buhari vs Atiku: VON DG, Okechukwu slams PDP over rejection of presidential election results

The Director-General of Voice of Nigeria (VON) and a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Osita Okechukwu, has berated the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), for its rejection of the presidential results collated and announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Wednesday.

DAILY POST had reported that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), on Wednesday, formally declared the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Muhammadu Buhari, as winner of the February 23 presidential poll in Nigeria.

Buhari polled 15,191,847 votes compared to the 11,262,978 votes recorded by Atiku Abubakar, the Presidential candidate of the PDP.

Speaking with DAILY POST, in a telephone interview on Wednesday evening, the APC chieftain, said, “I don’t think if there (PDP) are sincere. Honestly, I have not seen substantial evidences on their side to nullify the presidential election.

“When INEC say something public is the law. People should understand that democracy is not revolution. The PDP, I understand their position, for me, PDP did more than I expected. Because, this is a party that was in disarray, how there it think they will win a government that has 23 governors?.

“I don’t know how is conceivable, but I know wishes are not horses. What PDP did, they wished they will win the presidency. I also, sympathize with them. They say, you can take the horses to the water, but you cannot force the horse to drink.”

Okechukwu, however, maintained that the reelection of the President, would offer Ndigbo the opportunity to produce Nigerian President of Igbo extraction in 2023.

The VON DG said, “The foundation he (Buhari) has laid for the development of critical infrastructures is guaranteed. And if that is guaranteed, it means that the Igbos would be more robust, because, we are hardworking, entrepreneurs’ people resilient, very passionate people.”
