Buhari visits IDPs in Yola, assures he will end Boko Haram insurgency


President Muhammadu Buhari, on Friday visited the Malkohi Internally Displaced Persons’, IDPs, Camp in Yola, the Adamawa state capital.

The President who spoke in Hausa language used the visit to reiterate his administration’s commitment to ending the Boko Haram insurgency.

Buhari said, “We remain committed to ending Boko Haram, ensuring your safety and welfare, particularly your children and their education.

“By the grace of God, it’s our wish that you will be at your farm next cropping season,” he added.

He further assured that “The government would not only recover your areas but also help in rebuilding destroyed structures particularly schools and hospitals.”

The President praised the Adamawa State government, National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA and other organisations for their effective handling of the IDPs and assured them of sustained Federal Government’s support.

In his address, Muhammadu Jibrilla, Governor of the state, applauded NEMA for its effort in managing the IDPs in collaboration with the State Government and called for sustained support from Federal Government.

Responding on behalf of the IDPs, Mr. Nicholas Samuel prayed for continued military victory over the insurgents and expressed the joy and hopes of the IDPs to return home very soon.

Samuel thanked government for showing concern to their plight and for making them feel at home.
