Former Head of State who is a leading contender of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential ticket, General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd.) was in Enugu yesterday where he hinged the future of Nigeria on the ouster of the ruling Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) from governance in the 2015 elections.
The presidential aspirant, who stated this while addressing delegates of the party preparatory to the December 10 APC presidential primaries, described next year as very critical for the country and insisted that it’s either Nigerians vote PDP out of power or the ruling party will vote Nigeria out.
Buhari decried the level of corruption in the country perpetrated by the PDP, noting that it has reached an alarming rate. He called on Nigerians to be more concerned with how to secure the future of the country.
Disclosing that his decision to contest the presidential election was to salvage the country from the claws of insecurity, corruption, inefficiency among other vices holding the nation down, the former Head of State stressed that unless the people agree on how to move the country forward, it would continue to get worse daily.
His words, “It is a pity, this visit has to be rushed but the main intention is to meet with the delegates who on the 10th of next month will determine the person that will participate in next year’s presidential election of the APC. I am sure that all the delegates here know that next year will be another landmark in Nigeria’s political history.
“To reflect what we experienced from 1999 till now and what we have in terms of foreign exchange, you will be amazed and how corrupt the PDP administration in the centre and state has been. We are used to the Nigerian airways, we are used to the Nigerian railways and even power sector, which is virtually the basis for sustained development after spending over $20 billion.
“The National Assembly had probed into corruption in this country; they had initiated hearing on Power Holding Company of Nigeria of blessed memories, Pension Funds, conducted public hearing in Abuja, nothing had been done,” he asserted.
