Buhari’s medical trip: Presidency fires back at Ezekwesili, calls ex-minister a liar

The Presidency on Wednesday blasted former Education Minister, Oby Ezekwesili for allegedly circulating a false report about President Muhammadu Buhari.

Ezekwesili on Monday claimed that Buhari while speaking at Chatham House in London had wondered why a President should travel “abroad” for medical attention when hospitals in the country were unequipped.

The activist, in a tweet had posted the statement ascribed to the President which reads, “What is the difference between me and those who elected us to represent them, absolutely nothing,

“Why should Nigerian President not fly with other Nigerian public? Why do I have to embark on on a foreign trip as a president with a huge crowd with public fund.

“Why do I have to go on foreign medical trip if we cannot make our hospital functional? Why do we need to send our children to school abroad if we cannot develop our universities to compete with foreign ones?”

Reacting, the presidency said the statement ascribed to Buhari by the co-converner of the BringBackOurGirls, BBOG, advocacy group was “fictional.”

In a tweet via its verified handle, the Presidency wrote: “The ‘Chatham House’ quote below, attributed to Pres @MBuhari, & currently circulating on social media, is FICTIONAL. Kindly disregard it.

“The President’s Chatham House event was on Feb 26, not Feb 21, 2015.”
