Buhari’s fight against corruption not targeted at any party – AGF insists

The Attorney-General of the Federation, AGF, and Minister of Justice, Mr. Abubakar Malami, SAN, yesterday insisted that President Muhammadu Buhari’s fight against corruption was not targeted at any particular political party, and that nobody who is found to be corrupt would be spared.

Speaking at the ongoing 56th annual general conference of the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, he declared that there are no sacred cows in the anti-corruption campaign of the administration of Buhari.

The minister stated that contrary to insinuations in some quarters, the current fight against corruption in the country was not lopsided, adding that there must be a reasonable ground for suspicion of the commission of an offence bothering on corruption for anybody to be investigated and arrested.

According to him, “On the issue of being lopsided in the fight against corruption, I think the question should be, is there any reasonable ground for suspicion of the commission of an offence? It is not about whether they (offenders) are PDP or APC.

“As lawyers, you have at your disposal the Freedom of Information Act and the right to seek for support for the prosecution of those suspected to have committed any offence.”
