Buhari’s exemplary leadership behind success in anti-corruption fight – ICPC boss

The Chairman, Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, Ekpo Nta, on Friday said the ongoing anti-corruption crusade by the President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government has so far been successful because the President has been exemplary.

In a statement by the ICPC, Nta who spoke on a television programme said the international community had started reckoning with the anti-corruption crusade of the current administration, adding that the fight is beginning to gain momentum

and Nigerians are beginning to key into the project.

The statement reads, “The seriousness with which the war is being fought in Nigeria has been eliciting responses from countries that have been promising to offer assistance to Nigeria in its fight against corruption.

“ICPC has long taken preventive measures towards advancing the course of the fight against corruption through the promotion of ethics and integrity from childhood. We have also alluded to the launching of National Values Curriculum in schools since 2007 to inculcate ethics in students at primary and secondary schools, which is in collaboration with the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council.”

Nta noted that the anti-corruption fight had also been generating interest from the grassroots in Nigeria as even local communities had willingly been reporting people they suspect as living above their means.

He cited an instance where before now indigenes of some communities used to be hostile to operatives of the law enforcement and anti-corruption agencies, including ICPC, whenever they want to make arrests but is no longer the case.
