Nigeria’s political heavyweights on Wednesday stayed away from President Goodluck Jonathan’s presentation of his mid-term scorecard to the nation.
Conspicuously absent at the event which was held at the International Conference Centre, Abuja, were three former Heads of State. They are Olusegun Obasanjo, Muhammadu Buhari and Ibrahim Badamsi Babangida.
Others are former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal.
However, in attendance were the President’s wife, Patience, former Heads of State, Yakubu Gowon and Shehu Shagari, former Interim National Government Head, Ernest Shonekan and one-time Chief of General Staff, Oladipo Diya.
Leadership of the ruling People’s Democratic Party, party chieftains, ministers, heads of parastatals and captains of industry as well as members of the diplomatic corps also graced the occasion.
Guest speakers at the programme include American human rights activist, Jesse Jackson and Amos Sawyer.
