President Muhammadu Buhari, yesterday described the death of a former deputy Governor of Kano state, Engr. Magaji Abdullahi, as the demise of his close associate who immensely contributed to the sustenance of democracy in the country.

In a condolence message to the government and people of Kano state, delivered on behalf of the President by a delegation led by Minister of Water Resources, Alhaji Sulaiman Adamu, at the Kano Government House, he noted that Engr. Magaji did his best for national progress during his life time both as a civil servant and politician.

“His Excellency, the President asked us to come and condole with his family, His Highness, the Emir of Kano and also to convey his condolence to you and entire people of the state,” the Minister told Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje in a statement issued by the Director-General, Media and Communications, Government House, Kano, Salihu Tanko Yakasai.

He recalled that late Engr. Abdullahi was the brain behind the success of WRECA, an indigenous company whose quality works positively torched the lives of many Nigerians, and also produced many trained contemporary engineers that Nigeria is proud of.

The Minister prayed Almighty Allah to make the deceased’s family courageous enough to bear the loss and to grant him the highest position in Paradise.

In his response, the Kano Governor said with the demise of Engr. Magaji Abdullahi “the engineering profession in Nigeria has lost a great icon, considering the leading role he played in sustaining WRECA as an engineering outfit that conquered the whole country, as far as dam construction is concerned.”

“As a politician,” he stated that the late Magaji was one time a national chairman of a political party in Nigeria and a very active politician who rose to the position of deputy governor, emphasizing that the deceased has done his part in the advancement of the nation, leaving behind legacies worthy of emulation.

While thanking President Buhari for sending a delegation to sympathize with the people of Kano, he prayed Allah to accept all the prayers offered for the repose of the late politician’s soul.

Members of the delegation that accompanied the Minister of Water Resources on the sympathy visit are the Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, Special Assistant to the President on Media, Malam Garba Shehu and the Accountant General of the Federation, Alhaji Ahmad Idris.

The late former deputy governor died on Sunday, at the age of 69, during a long illness and is survived by one wife, many children and relatives.
